Future Directions: 2022 Summit

NCyTE hosted The Role of Community Colleges in Cybersecurity Education: Future Directions Summit 2022 in Alexandria, VA between June 26-28, 2022 in collaboration with the two other NSF ATE Cybersecurity Centers (National CyberWatch and CSSIA). Leaders from education, government, industry, and business discussed the progress and impacts of community colleges on workforce development that directly supports national and economic security and they contributed to recommendations for the future. Community College Cybersecurity Strategic Summit - 2022

NCyTE hosted the Community College Cyber Strategic Summit at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham, Washington on December 8-9, 2022 in collaboration with the NSF (National Science Foundation) and Office of the National Cyber Director (ONCD). This summit brought together 95 leaders and stakeholders in cybersecurity education including community college faculty and administrators, corporate partners, and government representatives. Presentations and discussions at this summit will help form the development of a National Strategy for Cyber Workforce and Education by the Office of the National Cyber Director. Merging IT and OT for Cybersecurity: A Hands-On Faculty Workshop

Who Should Attend:

This workshop is funded and tailored specifically for community and technical college faculty members wishing to expand their knowledge, earn an industry certification, and strengthen their ability to incorporate new cybersecurity content in their community college curriculum. This workshop is not intended for students or other non-faculty participants.

About the Workshop:

This two-day hands-on workshop explores the critical convergence of information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) security in today's interconnected cybersecurity landscape. Built around a comprehensive case study approach, participants will gain practical experience with tools, processes, and teaching strategies for integrating IT and OT security concepts in cybersecurity education.

The workshop emphasizes hands-on activities with modern security technologies and frameworks, including zero trust architecture, microsegmentation, automated device discovery, and incident response systems. The class will use both simulation and virtualization in teaching these concepts. Participants will learn how to apply a structured assessment methodology to identify vulnerabilities in converged IT/OT environments, design and implement zero trust architecture with microsegmentation for IT/OT networks, and configure and deploy automated device discovery and classification tools for OT/IoT environments.

Workshop participants are expected to actively engage in the workshop by participating in the hands-on activities and interactive discussions.
